As you may not know, many peoples with intellectual disabilities are often diagnosed with severe maladaptive behaviors and are often homed in privately owned group homes that are able to help provide services and provide the care these individuals need. The funding for each individual is provided by Medicaid and unfortunately, many of these homes wind up in low income and forgotten neighborhoods due to limited funds that are provided. Most homes are rented properties, and it can be extremely difficult to find homes available where property owners are willing to allow these needy individuals in their homes and community; where they should be able to prosper and gain support. That being said, most of these properties are run down and in need of repair and attention, like the one we have been able to aquire to open this new home.

It is our belief that these special individuals should not go without proper shelter, food, and essential medical care every day, which is why we are working hard to develop The Sunshine Home with higher living standards, starting with the condition of the home they will be living in. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, peoples with disabilites are at the most risk, and they make up the largest number of clients we serve. Our mission is to develop a home that we ourselves would want to spend our time in, or if needed, feel great about placing one of our own loved ones.

The Sunshine Home will be the first home in St. Petersburg to be operated by Behavior Analysts rather than private citizens who don’t usually have any special interest in the field.

With the generous support of people and businesses like you, we will be able to help these individuals not only to meet essential daily needs, but to work toward a brighter future with programs in job training, education, behavior services, and housing.

The Sunshine Home is Focus Behavioral Supports first group home, we are a startup who is looking to start off strong, in order to set new standards of how these homes should and could be run, in order to more greatly benefit each individual who may be homed with us. We would like to make a great impact in our community, and this home is the first step. Many other programs, and homes will be on the horizon once we have successfully developed The Sunshine Home.
